Shangri La-Deqin
Set out on a scenic journey in the morning as you drive approximately 6 to 7 hours to Deqin County, situated at an altitude of 3400m. Travel 187 km from Zhongdian through the breathtaking Baimang Snow Mountain Nature Reserve, offering stunning views of the majestic Baimang Snow Mountain if the weather is clear.
As you traverse through mountain ranges and reach the highest point of the day at 4292m, you'll be treated to panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscapes. Make a brief stop at Benzilan town for lunch and capture memorable shots of the first bend of the Jinsha (Yangtze) River, Dongzhulin Monastery, and the iconic Baima (White Horse) Snow Mountain.
Take in the picturesque scenery along the way, featuring diverse trees, meandering streams, colorful prayer flags and stupas, and charming Tibetan villages dotting the landscape. Immerse yourself in the beauty and tranquility of the natural surroundings as you journey towards Feilaisi, where you will spend the night in this scenic location.
Deqin-Yanjing in Tibet
Rise early in the morning to witness the enchanting sunrise over the Meili Snow Mountain from the Feilai Monastery, located just 10km away. Capture the magic of the sun casting its warm glow on the snow-capped peaks, creating a breathtaking sight to behold.
Afterwards, embark on a 1.5-hour drive to Mingyong village, where you'll trek along scenic trails for approximately 4km to reach the base of the Mingyong Glaciers. Enjoy a leisurely walk for about an hour until you reach the Tibetan Taizi Monastery, offering another spectacular vantage point to admire the magnificent glaciers. For those seeking a more comfortable journey, you may choose to hire a horse to reach the glacier and conserve your energy.
Following the glacier tour, return to Deqin County to continue your adventure. If weather conditions permit, marvel at the golden snow-capped Kawagebo peak (6,740m), also known as the Peak of Mt. Meili, as you travel along the picturesque north of the Mekong River valley into Tibet.
Upon entering Tibet, make a stop in the historic town of Yanjing, renowned as the primary source of salt for a vast region stretching from northwestern Sichuan down into Yunnan. Next, head towards the holy lake of Darksumtso, a pristine lake located at an altitude of 3500m and covering an area of 27 sq.km. Take the time to soak in the tranquility of the lake and marvel at its crystal-clear waters, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and lush greenery.
