Arrival in Chengdu
Welcome to Chengdu, the hometown of the Giant Panda! Upon arrival, your private driver and guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, exploring the city on your own or simply relaxing after your journey.
Travel Information
Chengdu is well connected by both air and rail, with two major airports, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. It’s easily accessible by high-speed rail from major cities like Xi’an, Chongqing, and Kunming.
Free Time Ideas
Use this time to wander Chengdu's bustling streets or ask your guide for recommendations to make the most of your afternoon, whether it's visiting local parks or indulging in some Sichuan cuisine.
Morning: Chengdu Panda Base
Your day starts with an early visit to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Located just 17 kilometers from downtown, this is the world’s largest panda sanctuary, home to over 100 pandas. Get a chance to see these charming creatures playing, eating, and even interacting with visitors. If visiting in autumn, you may even spot baby pandas in the nursery.
Afternoon: Wenshu Monastery and Renmin Park
After the panda adventure, head to Wenshu Monastery, a 1,400-year-old Buddhist temple dedicated to Manjushri Bodhisattva. Marvel at the Qing Dynasty architecture and take a moment of peace in its tranquil courtyards.
Next, visit Renmin Park, where you’ll experience the relaxed pace of Chengdu life. Watch locals practice Tai Chi, play mahjong, and enjoy the vibrant tea culture. Don’t forget to stop at one of the traditional tea houses for a jasmine green tea and perhaps even indulge in the quirky "ear cleaning" tradition popular with locals.
Evening: Jinli Old Street
End your day with a stroll through Jinli Old Street, a lively area known for its historic architecture, street food, and traditional crafts. Here, you can shop for souvenirs like Shu embroidery, lacquerware, and local snacks, or simply enjoy the atmosphere.
Morning: Flight to Jiuzhaigou
After breakfast, your guide will escort you to the airport for your flight to Jiuzhaigou. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred directly to Huanglong Scenic Area, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its breathtaking natural beauty.
Exploring Huanglong
Huanglong is renowned for its colorful travertine pools, snow-capped peaks, and serene forests. The unique yellow limestone formations, which give the area its name ("Yellow Dragon"), resemble a massive dragon winding through the valley. You'll take a cable car to the top and then walk down the valley, exploring highlights like the Five-Color Ponds, Mirror Ponds, and the picturesque waterfalls and monasteries along the way.
Useful Tips
The altitude at Huanglong can be high (3,200 to 3,600 meters), so it’s important to avoid strenuous exercise and stay hydrated.
The cable car is closed during winter months.
Full-Day Tour of Jiuzhaigou National Park
Today is dedicated to exploring Jiuzhaigou National Park, one of China’s most spectacular natural wonders. The park is known for its crystal-clear lakes, cascading waterfalls, and scenic Tibetan villages. Your guide will take you on a sightseeing bus that circulates between the three main valleys—Zechawa, Rize, and Shuzheng—allowing you to hop off at key spots and enjoy short walks to capture the park’s beauty.
Key highlights of the day include:
Nuorilang Waterfall: One of the largest and most famous waterfalls in Jiuzhaigou.
Five-Flower Lake: Known for its incredibly clear water and the vibrant colors of the lake bed.
Mirror Lake: A serene, still lake that perfectly reflects the surrounding mountains and trees.
Panda Lake: A tranquil spot named after the pandas that once roamed this area.
The park is vast and requires quite a bit of walking, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Lunch options are available inside the park, though they can be crowded, so bringing your own picnic is a good idea if you prefer to avoid the crowds.
Useful Tips
Arrive early to avoid crowds, especially during peak tourist season.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring sunscreen and snacks.
Be prepared for the altitude—Jiuzhaigou sits at around 2,000 meters.
Morning: Jiuzhaigou Departure
After breakfast at your hotel, your guide will transfer you to the airport for your departure flight. If you have time, feel free to explore the local area before your flight.
